I’m Attached to the Name!

What is in a name? Why do I get so attached?

As I’ve talked with pregnant women lately about their name selection process, I’ve gotten present to how much I like McKenzie’s and Jake’s names. I think the names fit them so well. Really, I was puffing myself up about what a great job we did in the name selection process! And that begs some questions: Do the names fit them or are they fitting their names to some degree? Is there something to the idea that people will relate to a “McKenzie” in a certain way? Would you be surprised to learn that McKenzie is an energetic girl that loves dancing, listening to music and expressing her opinions? Read the rest of this entry »

Music. It’s therapeutic…

Music. It’s therapeutic, a mood lifter, a companion, a means of escape, a way to get in touch with our intuition, simply fun. Music can fulfill many purposes for us. I find that pregnant women often intentionally use music to help them feel good and get in touch with what they want.

I thought it would be fun to compile a list of our favorite songs to listen to during pregnancy!

What are your 3 favorite songs to listen to during pregnancy? Please leave a comment at the bottom of this blog entry by Wednesday, August 5th and share them with us.

1.

2.

3.

We’ll track the songs you share and put together a list. This list will then be made available as a Playlist on iTunes!

Have fun connecting with your music! And, thank you for sharing your favs.

Going with the flow

Supriya wanted to have a natural vaginal delivery and it didn’t quite go that way. She was in labor for 27 hours, pushing for four or five hours. It seemed so long to her. She explains, “We kept going in all these different positions. Get in touch with your inner animal, growl, yell, all the coach things. Anyhow, nothing worked, and I remember looking at the clock at some point during all this and thinking, okay, let’s just do a c-section. Like I had made this decision inside myself to just do it rather than this whole natural delivery that I had planned. We didn’t go in for the c-section until a good couple of hours later. It was quite the neat experience, actually, when they reached into my belly. Read the rest of this entry »

When you really don’t want what you want…

I’m done breastfeeding my son and I’m sad about it. I want to still be breastfeeding. I want to have my nuzzle time with him. I want to know that I’m feeding him nutrition-packed breast milk. I want to take bottles to daycare with red labels (breast milk) instead of white labels (formula). I want to say that I breastfed my son for a year. I want to be done breastfeeding. I want to pack away that pump. I want to stop washing the funnels and storage bottles. I want all of this. So, how do I know what to do? How do I do what I want to do? Read the rest of this entry »

When do you know?

Denise felt certain about 2 things after the birth of her second child. One – that she would give birth again. Two – that this was her last child. Huh. What did that mean? Read the rest of this entry »

See them as partners, not critics

Savvy source recently published an article about what parents learn in preschool. It points out that when we, as parents, are seeking out a preschool, “we’re not only choosing teachers for our kids, we are also potentially gaining partners and guides in our own parenting efforts.” Read the rest of this entry »

Can you create your own luck?

I co-facilitated a Tiara Teleconnect conference call the day after St. Patrick’s Day about how to create luck. (You can listen to the recorded call by going to the “Community – Listen in” section of the Tiara Coaching website www.tiaracoaching.com). It’s an interesting concept. Can you create your own luck? Well, we assumed that you could and explored how one might go about claiming the luck of the Irish for themselves!

I’ve realized since I got off the conference call that I’ve had an experience of previously feeling like I was going to be completely unlucky in an area of life — then proceeded to generate luck in that area of life. The area of life is pregnancy.

The Choices We Make

Expect the Best while You’re Expecting is primarily about expectant mothers making choices that work really great for them. During this important and emotional time, I like to see women paying attention to their thoughts, feelings and energy to make choices that are fully aligned with who they are and the type of pregnancy they would ideally like to experience. I think it’s an important time to be intentional. And…wouldn’t it be great if all people were making choices that worked for them in all areas of their lives?! Could this even be possible?? When you’re pregnant you get to take your baby everywhere

So, I’m writing this the day before I get on a plane to spend 6 luxurious, fun, margarita-filled days with my sister in Mexico. I’m proud of us – my sister and me – for creating this. We both had babies last fall. She gave birth to twins in August and my Jake was born in September. We’re giving ourselves a treat. I am so looking forward to heart-to-heart talks, getting to know my sister – and who she is now – better, listening to a foreign language, relaxing by the pool without worrying about anyone’s schedule – other than, when does the buffet open?, dancing and drinking and laughing a lot! Oh, and feeling that warm, warm sun!

In order to experience this, I’ve got to get out of the car, which will have my husband and 2 kids in it, in the morning. Read the rest of this entry »

I miss being automatically noticed as special…

When you’re in your later stages of pregnancy, everyone automatically knows about something special going on in your life…your pregnancy! It’s pretty obvious. And, I thought that was nice. People commented on it, you got to talk about yourself and your baby, what was going on, what you were looking forward to. It was a great way to get to know all kinds of people better. I now know have a deeper relationship with the server at Panera Bread, with a fellow customer of Peet’s coffee, the teller at the bank, and random people throughout Chicagoland with whom I’ve waited in line!

Then after your baby is born, they don’t necessarily automatically notice you as special anymore. Read the rest of this entry »
